Things to do Exploring Australia

Location

LAKE EACHAM

What it is?

The volcanic crater lake is approximately 60-65 meters deep and surrounded by beautiful rainforest. There is a freshwater crocodile here, but being a freshie, he won’t bother you if you don’t bother him.
Lake Eacham is part of the Crater Lakes National Park.

What it offers?

Crystal clear blue/green water; peaceful surrounds; wildlife; hiking; a nearby waterfall; easy access in and out of the lake. Bring your snorkel and flippers along. Toilets, picnic tables and BBQs are available. HERE is the link to the 3km walking circuit.

Wheelchair Access?

May require assistance.
Toilets and some walking track is wheelchair accessible.

What we did?

Walking along the end of the lake looking at the fish and turtles was really relaxing. The first time we went here the weather wasn’t the best, but i really wanted to have a look at what it was. The second time was with my daughter and her partner, and after spending the entire day exploring the tablelands with them, unfortunately we were all getting tired and ready to go home. There was enough time and energy to put out feet in teh water and walk along the edge for a couple hundred metres. I definitely would love to spend an entire day here.

Highlight?

The entire thing. It is stunning.

Would I do it again?

Yes, I loved it here. I want to return with a kayak and spend the day floating and paddling around the lake.

As a couple: water bottles;  healthy snacks for the trail around the lake; wide brim hat: sunscreen; bug spray; good sturdy shoes; swimmers and towels; jacket; picnic and picnic blanket; something to float on (kayak, flotation ring, body board).
