Gordonbrook Dam is the sole water supply for Kingaroy and a peaceful spot to unwind. Originally built in 1941 as a water supply for the Royal Australian Air Force Training Base during WWII, the dam wall was raised in 1987 to inundate an area of 229 hectares – the dam we have today.
The dam provides a haven for over 100 different species of birds including: Jacanas, White Breasted Sea Eagles and Pygmy Geese as well as the more common water birds such as Black Ducks and Egrets.
Camping, swimming, fishing, sailing and low horse-power boating is not permitted at the dam due to blue/green algae in the water.
What it offers?
Take in the beautiful dam views from the viewing platform or a variety of walking tracks along the waters edge.
Enjoy a picnic at the tables provided and use the wood fired barbecues.
Gordonbrook Dam is located 21 km north of Kingaroy. Fishing is restricted to shore fishing. There is no camping on site, but many accomodation options are available in Kingaroy. Facilities at the dam include picnic tables and toilets (composting), but no playground facilities.
Wheelchair Access?
May require assistance.
The surface is not flat, please see photos.
What we did?
We drove in to have a look at the dam and watch the sunset. There were mosquitoes so we sat in the car.
